Between the eclipse, Charlottesville, the spontaneous anti-KKK protests that brought thousands of Durhamites out to protect this town and the resulting postponed the 3rd Friday openings — oh yeah, and the confederate statue getting pulled down in spectacular fashion — I forgot to mention "The Best Healthcare in the World" was accepted into the Durham Art Guild's 63rd Annual Juried Exhibition. This is the big regional show I've been submitting to for years, and was proud my installation made it in — this collection was one of the most robust they've staged in years.
I no longer had the orange wading pool, but DAG director Katie Seitz encouraged me to hunt down a similar model and after hitting a half-dozen stores, found a blue one. Katie also worked with me on a solution when the gallery landlord wouldn't let us fill the pool with water. The resulting installation is just as effective (if not more so). The 63rd Annual Juried Exhibition runs through October.
